Childhood memories – Gloria Morris

Gloria MasonGloria was born in the 1930s. She lived in Bardwell Road until her family moved to Nuns Lane after the war. She has many memories of cycling to Park Street and describes the countryside and wildlife. She remembers the steam train to Park Street which was called the “coffee pot” because it spat. She describes how all the houses were kept spotlessly clean. This is in contrast to the houses in Sopwell Lane and Keyfield Terrace which had earth toilets and so were rather smelly.
